Fatally beaten about the head after being called to arrest two drunken men in Melbourne, Derbyshire.

On the evening of 27th May 1828, after being called to help break up a fight between two drunken men, Constable Taylor took them to the Round House where the men forced him in with them and beat him so badly that he died early the following morning.

William left a wife and nine children.
