Died from the injuries he sustained eight days earlier when a terrorist time bomb, hidden in the ceiling of a classroom at Ulster Polytechnic, Jordanstown, County Antrim, exploded during a lecture. Inspector John Brian Martin and Sergeant Steven Alexander Neville Fyfe died on the day of the explosion.
