While on point duty on Rumney Hill between Newport and Cardiff he was knocked down by a motor car, sustaining head injuries he died shortly after.

Died in the King Edward VII hospital after suffering a fractured skull when, about 10:00pm the previous evening, he was knocked down by a car that he was attempting to stop while on point duty on Rumney Hill between Newport and Cardiff.
