After police received a call about a man loose in the town with a shotgun they began searching. In Bank Street they traced the man who upon seeing police brought the shotgun up and fired on them. Sergeant Gibson was killed and his colleagues injured. Posthumously awarded the King’s Commendation for Brave Conduct.
