Shot dead when his six-man patrol, cycling from Keadue to Ballyfarnon, County Roscommon, was ambushed by terrorists at the ‘Black Wood’.
Shot dead alongside his colleague, Constable Michael James Dowling, when their six-man patrol, cycling from Keadue to Ballyfarnon, County Roscommon, to investigate recent raids on the Post Office, was ambushed at the ‘Black Wood’. Their Sergeant was seriously wounded.
