Died in the Gloucestershire Royal Infirmary after being taken ill while taking statements in Brockworth the previous evening.
Having commenced his duty at 6:00pm on the evening of 27th January 1946, PC Clarke left the police station at 6:30pm after being sent to the National Service Hostel in Brockworth to make enquiries regarding an alleged theft there.
Shortly before 8:25pm Wilfred became quite ill and was violently sick. He was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Infirmary where he was detained overnight but in the early hours of the following morning his condition worsened and he died about 1:30am.
He had served with the Constabulary since 1920 and was survived by his wife and three sons.
