Recently disbanded, he was abducted and shot dead after being ordered off a pony and trap at Callan’s Cross, Kilbrittain, County Cork, while on his way to visit his mother.
Abducted and shot dead after being ordered off a pony and trap at Callan’s Cross, Kilbrittain, County Cork, while travelling from Kinsale with his aunt to visit his mother. His body, with a bullet wound in his head and another in his neck, was found the following day.
Constable O’Leary had recently been disbanded from the RIC and had returned home to Kilbrittain. His brother, also a member of the RIC, had been killed in an ambush in 1920.
