Fatally shot, together with two colleagues, when terrorist gunmen attacked their patrol as it returned from Ballyronan, near Magherafelt, County Londonderry.
USC Special Constable Edward D. Hegarty and RIC Sergeant Frederick J. Frizelle both died the following day.
