Circumstances

PC Stephen Tibble QPM was off duty riding his motorbike when he went to the assistance of colleagues engaged in a foot pursuit. Initially flagged down by T/DC Wilson, PC Tibble gave chase on his motorbike, riding past the pursuing officers and the suspect, he stopped and got off his motorbike, blocking the path of the suspect. As PC Tibble tried to catch hold of the suspect, a gun was produced and PC Tibble shot twice in the chest at point-blank range. He sustained fatal injuries and died later in hospital. He was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for Gallantry for Gallantry.

He was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for Gallantry for Gallantry.
