Circumstances

While on duty at a security barrier in Newry town centre, County Down, the officer was informed of suspected terrorist bombers nearby, when attempting to arrest one of the three suspects he was shot and fatally wounded.

Posthumously awarded the Queen's Police Medal for Gallantry.

At the time of the shooting, Constable Houston was attempting to arrest one of three suspected terrorists who were planning a bomb attack on The Stables Bar, Water Street, Newry, County Down.

Samuel was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for Gallantry.
