Died the day after being fatally injured by a terrorist booby-trap bomb that exploded as he and his colleague were checking an abandoned stolen car.

Died the day after being fatally injured by a terrorist booby-trap bomb that exploded as he and his colleague, Constable Robert Millar, who died the same day, were checking an abandoned stolen car at Lissaraw, near Crossmaglen, County Antrim.

 

Constable Donaldson’s brother, Chief Inspector Alexander Donaldson, was killed alongside eight other officers when, on 28th February 1985, Newry RUC Station came under heavy mortar attack by terrorists.
