Killed by the detonation of an unexploded bomb while checking bomb damage following an overnight enemy air raid at the Royal Albert Dock, West Ham. His colleague, PS Charles Edward Showell, died from his injuries the following day. Both officers were posthumously awarded a King’s Commendation for Brave Conduct in Civil Defence.
