Shot and fatally wounded while attempting to arrest a gang of armed burglars he and two colleagues disturbed late at night on 16th December at the Exchange Buildings, Cutler Street, Houndsditch. This incident was the precursor to what became the Siege of Sidney Street.
PC Walter Charles Choat also died on this date while PS Charles Tucker died the previous day.
Posthumously awarded the King’s Police Medal for Gallantry.
