Circumstances

PC Davenport, a member of the operational support division, reached through the driver’s side window of the stolen Ford Escort in an attempt to grab the keys out of the ignition.

The driver sped off, dragging the officer along Roe Street for 200 yards before the car smashed into a glass bus shelter.

A seriously injured PC Davenport was rushed to hospital but died two hours later.

Posthumously awarded the Queen's Commendation for Brave Conduct.

While trying to apprehend the driver of a stolen car, PC Davenport reached through the driver’s side window of a stolen Ford Escort in an attempt to grab the keys from the ignition but the driver sped off, dragging the officer along Roe Street for 200 yards before crashing the car into a glass bus shelter. Raymond was rushed to hospital but his injuries proved fatal.

PC Davenport was a member of the Operational Support Division and was survived by his wife and their daughter.
