PC Ahmed was on motorcycle patrol in Miles Platting, in central Manchester, when he saw a car ahead of him in traffic that was suspected to be stolen. The driver of the stolen car reversed suddenly, PC Ahmed manoeuvred his motorcycle out of the way but the driver then drove straight at PC Ahmed and rammed his motorcycle forward into a junction with oncoming traffic. PC Ahmed was struck by an articulated lorry, sustaining serious injuries he was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

While on motorcycle patrol the officer was rammed by a stolen car he had stopped for a routine check at Miles Platting; his police motorcycle was deliberately shunted into a busy road junction where he was struck by a lorry and fatally injured.
