Circumstances

Attending an alarm call at a gunshop in Coventry he was shot dead by the male who had intentionally broken in and laid in wait for police. Both he and his colleague were shot by the male who had armed himself with a shotgun from inside the store.

Shot dead at point blank range by a man who had broken in to a gun shop on Far Gosford Street in Coventry, armed himself with a shotgun from inside the store and laid in wait for the police as PC Guthrie and a colleague responded to the alarm. Posthumously awarded the Queen’s Police Medal for Gallantry.
