Shot dead when his foot patrol was ambushed at Drimoleague, County Cork, while returning to barracks.
Constable O’Connor was shot dead and another officer shot twice in the legs when, between 9:15pm and 9:30pm, their four-man foot patrol was ambushed by more than twenty terrorists at Drimoleague, County Cork, as the RIC patrol was returning to barracks less than fifty yards away.
