Died after having a leg amputated as a consequence of being seriously injured when he was struck by a passing railway van.
Early in the morning of Tuesday 28th July 1885, PC Murdoch was on duty on the railway near the Tay Bridge Goods Station, in Dundee, when he was struck by a passing railway van and seriously injured.
He died in The Royal Infirmary two days later after having his right leg amputated as a consequence of the injury.
