Circumstances

The officer was on duty on the railway at Tay Bridge, Dundee, near the Goods Yard, when he was hit be a passing van and seriously injured. He was taken to the infirmary where he had a leg amputated but he died the following day.

Early in the morning of Tuesday 28th July 1885, PC Murdoch was on duty on the railway near the Tay Bridge Goods Station, in Dundee, when he was struck by a passing railway van and seriously injured.

He died in The Royal Infirmary two days later after having his right leg amputated as a consequence of the injury.
