Died in hospital from the injuries he sustained when he was accidentally struck by a car while on foot patrol.
PC Butler had been seen standing about four or five feet from the roadside verge when, about 6:15pm, he seemingly stumbled and was struck by a car near Snaith, on the Goole to Pontefract road.
After initially having his head bandaged by a doctor, Moses was admitted unconscious to the Bartholomew Hospital in Goole suffering from a fractured skull, a broken nose and leg abrasions. He died the following morning.
PC Butler was stationed at Pollington and had served seventeen years with the force.
He left a wife and four children.
