After initially having his head bandaged by a doctor, Moses was admitted unconscious to the Bartholomew Hospital in Goole suffering from a fractured skull, a broken nose and leg abrasions. He died the following morning.

PC Butler was stationed at Pollington and had served seventeen years with the force.

He left a wife and four children.
