Circumstances

Killed while on foot patrol by the detonation of a terrorist bin bomb.

Killed alongside his colleague, Constable James A. McCandless, when a terrorist remote-controlled bomb hidden in a litter bin in Thomas Street, Armagh, was detonated as they passed by, just one minute into the new year. A third officer was injured but survived.
