Roll of Honour Citation
Shot dead as he was escorting a prisoner by train when terrorist gunmen boarded the train to free the prisoner.
Shot dead as he and Sergeant Peter Wallace, who died the following day, and two other officers were escorting a prisoner by train when, at Knocklong station, four or five terrorist gunmen boarded the train to free the prisoner. One of the surviving officers was awarded the Constabulary Medal for courage and devotion to duty. The other officer, however, had come from a very nationalist family and it was he who had leaked the information regarding the escort’s movements.
