Circumstances

Killed, together with two other officers, PC Barrett and Sgt Wilson who were fatally injured, in a railway collision at Billing between a ballast train and the passenger train on which they were returning from the Quarter Sessions at Northampton.

Superintendent Poole was returning from the Quarter Sessions at Northampton with two colleagues, PC Thomas Barrett who died from his injuries the following day and PS Isaac Wilson who died on 14th November.
