Collapsed and died from heart failure while escorting a burglar to the bridewell in Seaforth.

PC Booth died at the scene, in Seaforth Road, Liverpool, before medical assistance arrived.

Lewis, who was based at West Derby, a suburb of Liverpool, had served for twenty-one years and left a wife and seven children.
