Died in the Dunfermline and West Fife Hospital the day after suffering internal injuries when the fire engine on which he was sitting was involved in a collision with a milk van, while returning to Rosyth Naval Dockyard from a training exercise with the Fire Brigade.

Circumstances

As a passenger he sustained fatal injuries whilst training in the Rosyth Dockyard fire engine when it was in a collision with a cart. He was taken to hospital in Dunfermline but died the next day.
