Circumstances

He was going on duty at Dunshaughlin when he was waylaid and stabbed through the body in four different places with his own bayonet which the murderers carried off.

Fatally stabbed four times with his own bayonet, which his assailants carried off, when he was waylaid in Dunshaughlin, County Meath, while en route to report for duty.
