Circumstances

While engaged in road traffic checks at Margate just after midnight, wearing reflective clothing and carrying a speed camera, he attempted to stop a speeding vehicle; the driver ignored his signal and the car struck the officer about 50mph causing massive internal injuries, which proved to be fatal.

PC Odell was carrying out road safety checks in Shottendane Road, Margate, just after midnight, when the driver of a speeding vehicle ignored his signal to stop.

The car struck the officer at about 50mph and dragged him fifty yards along the road, causing him massive internal injuries from which he died.
