Collapsed and died from heart failure while on night patrol with a colleague on Villiers Street, Blakenhall.

Special Constable Watson had previously served twenty-five years with Wolverhampton Borough Police before retiring four years earlier.

Following the declaration of war, and the loss of police officers to the military, John responded to a call for men to join the Special Constabulary but died on duty the day after being sworn in.

He was born in Ruabon, Denbighshire and was survived by his wife and three children.
