Died the day after being fatally wounded when a terrorist unit ambushed his seven-man mobile patrol at Inches Cross, Lisvernane, in the Glen of Aherlow, County Tipperary. Three other constables, Charles William Buntrock, Patrick Mackessy and Jeremiah O’Leary died the previous day.
