Died from the wounds he sustained when a bomb was thrown at him by masked men as he returned to his barracks.

Died from the mortal wounds he sustained nine days earlier, while off duty in Armagh, when a bomb was thrown at him by two masked men, near Todd’s Corner, as he returned from Scotch Street to Russell Street Barracks, after paying for a motor car.
