Killed, alongside a colleague, by the detonation of a terrorist landmine while on mobile patrol at Loughmacrory, County Tyrone.

John’s colleague, Constable Andrew Alfred Woods, was also killed as they patrolled together at Loughmacrory, near Omagh.
