Shot dead by a terrorist volunteer in Walsh's Public House on Moore Street, Kilrush, County Clare.
Following a raid on a terrorist training camp in Tullycrine, which resulted in the temporary disbandment of their local group, the terrorists were unable to identify the informer and decided to shoot DC O’Hanlon as a known RIC Intelligence Officer. After several failed attempts, it was by chance that a volunteer saw him on the street and then followed him into the public house.
