On duty at Longford Station on the Coventry and Nuneaton Railway he was standing on the line observing a train when he was struck by a train coming in from Liverpool. He was taken to hospital but later died.

Died in Coventry Hospital after being struck by a train from Liverpool, as he stood on the line observing another train from London, while on duty at Longford Station on the Coventry and Nuneaton Railway, earlier that day.
