Died after being seriously injured when he jumped from a railway truck and his right leg was crushed by an oncoming truck.

Circumstances

Seriously injured on the 17th October 1864 when he jumped from the rail truck he was tavelling on, as he landed he fell against a signal wire that threw his right leg outwards in front of an oncoming truck that passed over his leg and smashed it to peices. He was immediately taken to the South Devon and East Cornwall Hospital where his leg was amputated. He remained ill from the surgery until his death.

Died in hospital eleven weeks after being seriously injured, on 17th October, when he jumped from the railway truck on which he was travelling and, as he landed, fell against a signal wire that threw his right leg in front of an oncoming truck that passed over the limb and crushed it.

He was immediately taken to the South Devon and East Cornwall Hospital where his leg was amputated and where he remained ill from the surgery until his death.
