Shot and fatally wounded when attacked while off duty unarmed.

On the evening of Sunday 3rd of July, Constable Fitzgerald and another Constable, who managed to escape, were attacked by five armed men on bicycles, while off duty at The Murrough, about a mile from Wicklow, County Wicklow.
