Killed when his motorcycle collided with a car while travelling to work.

Constable Currie left home and was travelling to work on his motorbike when at 5.15pm he collided with a stationary lorry on the Glasgow-Edinburgh Road near to Newhous. He sustained multiple head injuries and died instantly.

 

He was buried at Kirk o’ Shotts Cemetery on Monday the 26 January 1953. There was a large turnout at the funeral with 60 colleagues from the local Burgh and County forces in attendance.

 

In 1950 John joined Motherwell & Wishaw Burgh Police, he was single and still living at home with his parents. He travelled to and from work on his motor bike.
