Circumstances

Killed, along with 28 other men, whilst they were attempting to salvage the shipwreck of the Brig "Lily" on the rocks at Kitterland in the Sound Channel, when its cargo of gunpowder exploded.

Only one man involved in the salvage operation survived, though he suffered severe injuries.
