Died in hospital the day after he and a colleague were shot and fatally wounded when they were attacked by two men in Belfast.

Died in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast the day after he and Temporary Cadet Ernest Baran Bolam, who died the previous day, were shot and fatally wounded, after finishing their escort duty when, at approximately 9:10pm, they were attacked by two men at the junction of Donegall Place and Fountain Lane, in Belfast. The two officers had earlier travelled to Belfast in a party of twelve officers from Sligo.
