Shot and fatally wounded in a terrorist ambush while he was playing golf.
Died from his wounds about 45 minutes after being shot by several terrorists concealed in a hedge, some 15 yards away, while he and a Cadet from his Command were playing golf at the Tralee Links. He was a holder of the Distinguished Conduct Medal and Military Medal.
