He attended Chapel Street, Salford following an air raid, upon his arrival a delayed action bomb exploded, causing grave injuries from which he later died.

Died from the severe injuries he sustained the previous day when a delayed-action bomb exploded while he was on duty in Chapel Street, Salford, where bombs had fallen and exploded during the Manchester Blitz.
