Died from his injuries almost four weeks after the passenger train, on which he and two other officers were travelling, was in collision with a train carrying ballast at Billing, as they returned from the Quarter Sessions at Northampton. Superintendent Lewis Poole and PC Thomas Barrett died on 18th and 19th October respectively.
