Circumstances

Constable Broadhurst and a colleague were on patrol in Leeds when they checked a man in a car, which was found to be stolen and on false number plates. As they and a third officer attempted to arrest the suspect, he suddenly produced a handgun and fired several shots, hitting all three officers; his colleague was severely wounded and Constable Broadhurst was shot in the body and head and killed.
