Circumstances

Died from injuries received in the early hours of 23 December when Manchester Division HQ in Old Trafford was demolished by a high explosive bomb which struck in the early hours during an enemy air raid on Manchester.

Died from the injuries he sustained three days earlier, in the early hours of 23rd December when, during an enemy air raid, Manchester Division HQ in East Union Street, Old Trafford, was demolished by a high explosive bomb. Four other officers were killed that morning and another died from his injuries on 1st January 1941. Posthumously awarded a King’s Commendation for Brave Conduct.
