Circumstances

He was a passenger in a fire engine as it left Mersey Square fire station in Stockport attending to an emergency call. The engine left the road and plunged over the parapet of Wellington Bridge killing Superintendent Beckwith.

Superintendent Beckwith and other police firemen were responding from Mersey Square fire station in Stockport when the fire engine left the road and plunged over the parapet.
