Died when Manchester Division HQ in Old Trafford was demolished by a high explosive bomb which struck in the early hours during an enemy air raid on Manchester.

Killed in the early hours, alongside four other officers when, during an enemy air raid, Manchester Division HQ in East Union Street, Old Trafford, was demolished by a high explosive bomb. Another two officers died from their injuries days later.
