Died two years after sustaining serious injuries when, in 1889, he attempted to stop a horse that was running loose in Wandsworth, South London.
Coincidentally, more than a century later, on 20th August 2015, PC Donaldson’s great-great-granddaughter was on duty with the Metropolitan Police when she captured a pony that was running loose amongst traffic in Croydon, South London, and led it back to the field from which it had escaped.
