Shot and fatally wounded when his convoy came under heavy and accurate fire after being ordered to report to Slane as part of additional security measures.
Shot and fatally wounded along with six other officers who died the same day and another who died from his wounds twelve days later, after being ordered to report to Slane as part of additional security measures demanded by the Marquis of Slane as a consequence of the Easter Rising. At Kilmoon the convoy halted and was told by locals that rebels in Ashbourne were eager for a fight. About 12:30pm the convoy pulled up short of Rath Cross and began to disembark when it came under heavy and accurate fire. Posthumously awarded the Constabulary Medal for Gallantry.
