Having commenced duty with a colleague they were pushing their bicycles up the Ballymenoch Hill, near Hollywood in the evening when a speeding car approach them from behind. The car swerved, it hit Constable Anderson and his bicycle, knocking them both to the side. Constable Anderson sustained fatal injuries and the car sped off.
