Killed when he was thrown under a tram that collided with the horse-drawn ambulance he was driving.
While driving a horse-drawn ambulance in which he was transporting a patient to a mental hospital, PC Pragnell indicated to the driver of a tram to stop, but he failed to do so and the tram collided with the ambulance.
George was thrown from his seat and under the tram and died at the scene from his injuries.
