Circumstances

Whilst en route back to Peckham Police Station he stopped in to a shop, the shop had just been robbed. PC Hammond tackled the male, he was stabbed in the stomach. After five months in a coma he returned to light duties but never fully recovered from his injuries, retiring in 1990. He succumbed to the injuries sustained in 1985.

While en route back to Peckham Police Station he stepped into a shop that had just been robbed but was stabbed as he tackled the male perpetrator. After five months in a coma PC Hammond returned to light duties but never fully recovered from his injuries and retired in 1990.
